Thanksgiving Morning in Vicki's Kitchen...

Tradition...Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade while we make pies
to take to Gramma's house.

Best invention...ever!
Jack is waiting for the peels...so hilarious!

Pumpkin Pie...Chess Pie...French Apple Pie...and Holly's Cherry conglomeration recipe. (thanx hawl!)
Should be plenty of dessert!
Now this is a Chess Pie...(not Cheese Pie Lauren), a Southern favorite in honor of
our Nashville Explorers--looks kinda like pumpkin...but what a treat. The recipe is so easy, and does not advertise it well, because it is so delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces butter and 2 ounces evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons cornmeal

Preparation:

Melt butter; blend with sugars. Add eggs and other ingredients and stir until blended. Do not beat. Bake in unbaked pie shell for one hour at 350°. It needs to get dark...and set up before serving.Haley did 2 flower arrangements for Gramma's Tables!
Maybe today I can get some pictures...with people in them!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Addendum

On my run this am, I started worrying that my last post might
be taken incorrectly...as if those baby birds were my kids...
when actually that picture represents everything tugging
at me...keeping me from my kids.
So there.

Around Every Corner...

Is there an unspoken blogging rule that states you should only blog when you are in a good mood, being creative, or thoughtful?
If so I should stop right now.
This picture captures how I feel...
like there is this scene waiting for me around every corner.
I am tired.
There I said it.
(what is really sad is my mom sent this picture in one of those cute forwards
of wild animals snuggling with bears and stuff...
and all I saw....was a bunch of open mouths
wanting something..haha)

play-off game.
And we have one more BYU game to go to...

Here comes Christmas!

Bear With Me...This will all make sense.

I watched the Country Music Awards last night and one of my FAVORITE groups won for Vocal Duo of the year..
you have to watch this video...

and then read the rest of this post for my
epiphany.

Eight months ago, my first grand-daughter was born, and I was priviledged
to be present at her birth. Angels were in the room, I promise, with us that day.
And my sweet Lauren was in so much pain...and at one point, a tenderheartfelt, cry ...kind of a sob...accompanied each contraction.
And my motherly heart was in my throat.
And it hit me... the epiphany.
That sob--the tone-the quality of her voice,
was the very same upper-register-voice/notes that
grabs me when she sings. How many of you know/remember
how beautifully Lauren sings?

Those tones--those notes--those sounds--so pure.

WELL THIS SONG HAS THE SAME KIND OF VOCAL PURITY.
(in her highest registers.)

I know--I think too much...just humor me--LISTEN TO IT
